If a design solves a functional problem as simply and elegantly as possible, the resulting form will be honest, timeless and relevant across cultures.

Simplicity and ease of use are at the heart of functionality. Designing for simplicity means using fewer parts and less material, making function so easy to use that it’s invisible to the user.

It’s easy to make a product that looks great when it firsts come out of the box. It’s hard to make one that still looks great after years of heavy use. A product’s form should flow from its function, resulting in products that will feel as current and relevant in 20 years as they do today.

For most companies, sustainability means doing less harm to the environment. At Humanscale, we believe everything we create — from our company to factories to products — must be self-sustaining and make a positive contribution.
